In these pages I hope to show you some of the activities and opportunities that exist within the hobby and fraternity known as the amateur radio service.   You will see that you will be able to contact and possibly meet some of the 3 million plus people who have taken up this marvelous hobby up, and by doing so could help serve your community in times of emergency and natural disasters.

Amateur radio, also known as "ham" radio is probably the only hobby defined by international agreement.   The International Telecommunications Union, an agency of the United Nations, has defined the service as follows -

1.56     amateur service: A radiocommunication service for the purpose of self-training, intercommunication and technical investigations carried out by amateurs, that is, by duly authorized persons interested in radio technique solely with a personal aim and without pecuniary interest.

similarly, for those with an interest in space communications the service is defined as -

1.57     amateur-satellite service: A radiocommunication service using space stations on earth satellites for the same purposes as those of the amateur service.

Please feel free to make your way around this website and discover the wonderful world of amateur radio.     Let me know  what you think of the site, thank you.
