On the 1st December 2006 the new Lifetime Amateur Radio Licence was launched and the following notes are meant to answer a few of the questions that are already being asked -

* The new Terms and Conditions which replace the BR68 documents are being sent out from Ofcom by postal service over the next few months.  There are over 60,000 copies and It is anticipated that this process will take approximately 3 months

* Existing licensees who have not yet received their new Terms and Conditions document through the postal service must continue to operate under the terms of their existing BR68.

* Existing licensees who wish to operate under the new Terms and Conditions before receiving the document through the postal service may do so by -

    1. Registering with the Ofcom Licensing Centre (OLC) website at http://www.ofcom.org.uk/licensing/olc

    2. Within 5 working days a username and password should arrive through the postal service

    3. Using these validation tools it will be possible to download your new Lifetime licence which includes the new Terms and Conditions.

* Applicants applying for a new amateur radio licence online will be required to have their RAE candidate number to hand.  Please note that applicants with a RSGB RAE certificate dated before June 2003 or a City and Guilds qualification will have to apply using a paper based application form (the original of the qualification certificate and payment of £20 will need to be enclosed with the application).

* Paper based application are also necessary if the applicant:

    - wishes to reinstate a lapsed licence

    - wishes to apply for a historial callsign; or

    - wishes to apply for an Amateur Club licence or a Full (Reciprocal) or Full (Temporary reciprocal) radio licence.

* Licensees will be required to confirm their licence details at least once every 5 years.
